Remembering 2011
People & Locations
This year I discovered “very-hard-to-find” locations and met some exceptional, new people. The views are so much better when you go the extra kilometer -- whether by scheduled airline, float plane or trekking with a guide. You never get the money shot from the side of the road!.
Bhutan
This fall, I travelled to the tiny Kingdom of Bhutan nestled in the Himalayas between China and India. Bhutan measures GNH (Gross National Happiness) instead of GDP, so it’s a magical place and the closest you’ll get to Shangrila. If you've ever thought about taking a project to Bhutan - let me help you. I've made a host of contacts and the people are so helpful and hospitable. They really take great care of visitors.
Many thanks to Karchung, Sonam & Rinchen at Lhomen Tours & Trekking.
BTW: Arriving into Paro, Bhutan is very exciting. Only 8 pilots in the world are certified to land there.
Also, while planning this trip I found a handy tool to help plan weather sensitive shoots and activities. www.dryday.com Check it out it.
Revo Sunglasses - Coast Mountains, B.C.
This project took us to choice, locations around Whistler. For remote shoots local knowledge really makes the difference. That’s why I bring along Wayne Flann, top-notch mountain guide ski patroller and paramedic. I wouldn't go anywhere in the mountains without him. Armed with his GPS, bear spray and years of knowledge, Wayne keeps us safe. Check out his blog.
Wayne's Avalance Blog
Scouting can mean flying over the Coast Mountains and so many unbelievable views. On days like this I can't believe it’s work. All this just minutes from Whistler and 90 minutes from downtown Vancouver.
Revo Sunglasses - Ambassador
The man behind the sunglasses and Ambassodor for Revo is Sebastian Copeland, award winning photographer, extreme athlete, adventurer and climate care-taker.
Sebastian is currently doing his Antarctica 2011-12 Legacy Crossing.
Two men, three months, 4,000 km, and the coldest place on earth.
You’ll be amazed. Follow his blog Sebastian Copeland’s Adventures
He was terrific and such a good sport. Sebastian was preparing for his Antarctic crossing so he was loading up on carbs and nutrients. I always had plenty of food close by!
I wish him well on his journey. Safe travels Sebastian.
And lastly but most importantly:
May your heart be always joyous and your loved ones always healthy...I wish you much happiness, merriment, hope and bliss during this holiday season!
Cheers Kathy
